What does it look like when we allow things we experience to collect like driftwood on a beach? The letting go of our attachment may continue to result in detritus collecting, we might pick up the occasional feather or leaf while wandering, or the tides deliver some material that is attracted to us.
The ideas we allow to float in and out of our drift ask to be catalogued and collected but what might it look like to let them pile up?
You’ve been drifting for another cycle, through conversations that wandered and practices that held more presence than purpose, stories that didn’t resolve but stayed with you.
Now it’s time to return, not to the centre, but to the pile. The place where bits of thought, feeling, memory, and image have quietly gathered. Not as content or as clarity but as compost-adjacent intelligence.
This is your Drift Pile. It’s not a summary, or a harvest. It’s not even a pattern — not yet, it’s just a collection of what’s shown up:
Seaweed. Shells. Soft rope. Stone. A feather. A line of something half-remembered.
A gentle invitation:
Find a moment of stillness.
Bring to mind or onto paper any of the following:
A phrase that keeps echoing
A moment in a conversation that made your body respond
An image, word, or emotion that keeps reappearing
A tension you haven’t resolved
A question you forgot you asked
Then ask:
What’s still wriggling?
What’s begun to call to something else?
What feels like it doesn’t belong, but won’t let go?
What are you doing without realising you’re doing it?
This a quiet time of being not doing, you are not trying to make meaning, you’re just tidepooling the edges. Touching the fragments of what is emerging and letting them settle where they want to.
Notice how hard this feels to do…are you reacting to the invitation to just be? Is your action bias kicking in? Does this feel and sound fluffy and unhelpful? These are all parts of you drift pile - experience and notice them.
A quiet reminder:
“Your drift pile is not an archive...it’s a field.”
“It doesn’t need interpretation…it needs attention.”
“Some pieces are still becoming.”
“Some are echoes.”
“Some are seeds that won’t sprout for another season.”
You don’t have to organise them, you just have to notice.
Mark the fragments.
Leave the pile open.
Let the tide speak.
You’re still in motion.
And the field remembers.
Season of Drift playlist – Spotify
This season’s playlist drifts with you. A quiet companion for sifting through fragments, walking the edge, or tending your second drift pile. It blends spacious jazz, ambient texture, and cinematic soundscapes.
These are not tracks to solve or guide, but to hold you gently in the fog — music that breathes with your not-knowing, and invites you to stay present to what’s gathering at the edge of sense. Listen for what returns. Listen for what lingers. Let the playlist become part of your field.
The Art of Unravelling is offered as a gift, sustained by those who feel called to support the weaving. If you’d like to help tend the fabric of this work, you can contribute via the link below.
